ALAMGHIR-II
In full Aziz al-Dīn ʿAlamgīr II
Born June 6, 1699, Multan, India
Died Nov. 29, 1769, Delhi
He was placed on the throne by the imperial vizier Imād al-Mulk Ghāzī al-Dīn and was always the puppet of more powerful men, including the Afghan ruler Aḥamad Shah Durrānī, whose agents occupied Delhi in 1757 and made Alamgīr the nominal emperor of Hindustan. He was murdered by Ghāzi al-Dīn, who feared Alamgīr might be captured and used against him in another Afghan invasion.
